• Adoption and rescue coordination. With your knowledge and consent, we may share relevant information with foster families, veterinary partners (including Dr. Walsh at Feather and Fur Animal Hospital), or other rescue organizations in connection with a specific bird placement.
• AFA coordination. As HFFN serves as the AFA State Coordinator for Hawaiʻi, we may share relevant membership or event information with the American Federation of Aviculture as appropriate to that role.
• Legal requirements. We will disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person or animal.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy or as required by applicable law.

• Active members: Information is retained for the duration of membership and for a reasonable period thereafter to support renewal or re-enrollment.
• Adoption records: Retained indefinitely to support the long-term welfare of birds placed through our network, including follow-up care and emergency contact situations.
• Donation records: Retained for a minimum of seven years in accordance with standard nonprofit recordkeeping practices and IRS requirements.
• Website analytics: Anonymized usage data is retained per Google Analytics default settings (up to 26 months).
• General correspondence: Email and contact form submissions are retained for up to three years unless an ongoing relationship warrants longer retention.

How We Protect Your Information

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. Our website operates over HTTPS. Access to organizational records is limited to board members and authorized volunteers with a legitimate need.

Children Under 13
