Come Find Your ʻOhana

Our monthly gatherings are the heart of HFFN. Whether you have kept parrots for thirty years or just brought home your first budgie, you belong here. Come early, bring something for the potluck, a chair or blanket to sit on, and bring your bird if you like. There is no obligation, no pressure, and no membership required to attend your first meeting.

📍 Finding Us at the Park

Once you enter Moanalua Park from Mahiole Street, follow the path toward the back of the park. Look for the Big Tree — that is where we gather. If you hear parrots, you’ve found us. Meeting dates and any location changes are always posted on our Facebook page and in the Hawaiʻi Parrot Forum.

What to Look Forward to All Year

Beyond our monthly meetings, HFFN participates in and organizes a range of community events throughout the year. All confirmed dates appear on the calendar above. Here is what typically happens across the year:

🐾
Hawaiʻi Pet Expo First weekend in May each year. HFFN participates in Oʻahu’s largest pet event — a wonderful opportunity to connect with the wider animal-loving community, share information about parrot care, and represent our ʻohana. Details posted on the calendar as they are confirmed each year.
🌿
Guava Wood Harvesting Days Impromptu community harvests of guava wood — one of Hawaiʻi’s best safe woods for parrot perches and chew items. Dates are announced as opportunities arise, usually through Facebook and email. A great way to stock up on natural enrichment for your flock.
🧸
Toy Making Days Community sessions where members gather to make bird-safe enrichment toys for our parrots and for birds in foster or rescue situations. All materials provided. A fun, social way to contribute to bird enrichment while spending time with fellow parrot lovers.
🤝
Special Presentations & Guests From time to time our monthly meetings feature guest speakers — avian veterinarians, aviculturists, behaviorists, and other experts. When a special presentation is planned it will be noted on the calendar and announced through our Facebook communities.
🦅
AFA Events As an affiliate of the American Federation of Aviculture, HFFN shares information about AFA conventions, webinars, and events relevant to our members. Check the calendar and our Facebook page for AFA announcements throughout the year.
🌺
Community Gatherings Occasional special gatherings, potlucks, and community celebrations beyond our regular meetings. These are announced as they are planned — follow us on Facebook or subscribe to the calendar below to stay in the loop.
